Johnson City Transit System's Job Access service is a transportation service which is provided to "bridge the transportation gap" between low-income individuals, welfare recipients, and disabled individuals and their places of employment and/or employment-related activities. This service is funded through a grant program initiative from U.S. DOT and the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Job Access service is provided within the corporate city limits of Johnson City, TN, and is provided as a supplemental to regular JCT fixed route bus service. Job Access riders whose origin (residence) or destination (place or employment or employment-related service) is on the JCT fixed route service, and whose trip is during fixed route operating hours, ride the fixed route to the JCT terminal, where they are picked up by a Job Access demand response vehicle to complete the portion of their trip which is not on the fixed route. Job Access riders whose trips are outside fixed route operating hours, or who have trips with both origin and destination outside the fixed route service area, ride in a Job Access demand response vehicle during their entire trip.

The portion of Job Access service provided by Job Access demand response vehicles is curb-to-curb service. This means that the JCT vehicle will not drive on to private property, and will remain on public streets and areas.

Reservations must be made with JCT at least two days in advance of a Job Access demand response trip.
The Vehicle
Job Access demand response transportation service is provided using small buses or vans. These vehicles are also equipped with wheelchair lifts (or ramps), grab-rails, and low steps to accommodate riders with special needs.
Job Access service is available from 5:30 am until midnight, Monday through Saturday (excluding holidays). The fare is $2.00 per person per one-way trip if the Job Access demand response vehicle is used for the entire trip. The fare is $1.00 per person per one-way trip if the fixed route is used for a portion of the trip, with the rider being picked up at, or delivered to, the JCT terminal by the Job Access vehicle to complete the one-way trip.
