JCT Fixed Route Service Notes
BICYCLISTS: JCT's newest fixed route buses have bicycle racks on the front of the bus, onto which you may load your bicycle. JCT is not responsible for damages incurred or caused by or to bicycles on JCT bicycle racks. Take advantage of this new bus feature and enjoy your bicycling experience in Johnson City! (Note: Bicyclists may bring their bicycle on board any older JCT fixed route vehicles which are not equipped with bicycle racks, as space allows.)
WHEELCHAIRS: JCT's vehicles accommodate "common wheelchairs." A common wheelchair is a mobility aid with three or more wheels, useable indoors, designed for persons with physical disabilities. It may be manually or power operated. JCT's current vehicle fleet is equipped with lifts/ramps which can accommodate a wheelchair, when occupied by the client, with a total weight of 600 pounds or less. JCT will accommodate all wheelchairs which can be safely loaded and transported on JCT vehilces, lifts, and/or ramps. JCT is unable to accommodate wheelchairs with dimensions so large they pose a legitimate safety risk (such as a large wheelchair blocking the vehicle vestibule and/or interfering with the safe evacuation from the vehicle in an emergency).
JCT's newest fixed route buses are low-floor and are equipped with ramps. Patrons using wheelchairs should board these buses by driving their wheelchair "face forward" onto the bus ramp. However, for safety reasons, on JCT's buses which are equipped with wheelchair lifts rather than ramps, patrons using wheelchairs are strongly encouraged to be loaded by backing the wheelchair onto the vehicle lift (with patron facing away from the vehicle). All patrons using wheelchairs must allow JCT drivers to secure their wheelchair/mobility aid once they have boarded the JCTvehicle. Drivers will assist patrons on and off the vehicle as needed/requested.
Walkers with seats and light-weight transport chairs are not designed by their manufacturers to serve as wheelchairs and are not safe for a passenger to sit on during a ride on a public transit vehicle. Therefore, passengers using these devices must transfer to a regular JCT vehilce seat during the ride. The walker or transport-chair will be stored on the vehicle during the ride.
